Welcome to the Art Room 2017/18!

Hello to all, Welcome to the 2017/18 school year in the art room! This first 8 day cycle is being celebrated by the grand opening of the Drawing Center. Children were invited to experiment and explore drawing tools such as markers and crayons, oil and dry pastels, drawing pencils and pens as well as five different sets of coloring pencils. Many artistic behaviors were already witnessed while the children practiced observational drawings, line drawing and self portraits. Children are being exposed to basic artistic vocabulary such as lines, shapes and patterns. Students are excited and motivated to create in our new art classroom!

2nd Grade Tints Scale

Second graders have been practing how to mix colors with white to create a tint scale. After the paint dried we transformed it in to scoops of ice cream! Details were added with oil pastels.

Second Graders started drawings their pizzas using an Ellipse. tThey also drew crossing lines to slice their pizza and then added their favorite toppings.

Six ways to create illusion of space in a 2D surface.

4th graders recent work included a formal lesson on Perspective. They were introduced to the Vanishing Point and created the illusion of Shapes becoming Form.

Pre schoolers have finished their Value Painting! They have been introduced to the words Tints and Shades. All K5 students have practiced how to make a color darker by adding black (shade) and lighter by adding white (tint).

Tints and shades triangles were added to create contrast to their painting:
